Best vitamins for Your Hair

Your body is not the only thing that needs vitamins-- your hair does, too. Hair, just like the body, need vitamins to ensure its health, shine, and strength. Vitamins A, B and C necessary for healthy hair. Vitamin A is good for the skin and scalp. Vitamins B and C make for good blood circulation and hair growth.

For shiny hair

Because of the effects of weather and environmental factors, hair can lose a great deal of moisture, eventually becoming dry and dull. Using a conditioner twice or three times a week after you shampoo can help the hair regain moisture. Taking vitamin E supplements is also helpful in giving back the healthy glow to your hair. The chemical inositol also helps as this strengthens the hair's cell membranes, causing it to retain more moisture.

For hair loss

It is perfectly normal to lose up to one hundred strands of hair on a daily basis. Hair growth has two phases - the anagen phase wherein hair grows and the telogen phase wherein hair falls out naturally. When the anagen phase fails to keep up, this is when some people begin to get that bald spot. The reason for the acceleration of the telogen phase is the presence of one of the male androgens in the body called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). If you want to limit hair loss to a minimum, make sure the hair vitamin you purchase has a DHT inhibiting agent such as Gamma Lenolenic Acid (GLA), Alpha Lenolenic Acid (ALA), or Lenoleic Acid.

For keeping gray hair at bay

For your hair to retain its natural color, be sure the hair vitamin you select has a chemical called Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA), one of the many B-complex vitamins. In order to continue to produce melanin (the pigment of your hair), special organelles in the hair root called melanocytes must be fed a steady diet of this vitamin.
